SBI welcomes Arnold (Arnie) Eisen

Starts: Feb 01 / 19:30 hs. to 21:30 hs.
On February 1, SBI welcomes Arnold (Arnie) Eisen, Ph.D., formerly Koshland Professor of Jewish Culture and Religion and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Stanford University. Dr. Eisen is the newly appointed Chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary. His lecture, “Recognizing the 352-year History of Jews in America: The Challenge Before Us,” reflects his international reputation as one of the world's foremost experts in the sociology of American Judaism.

The series continues on March 8 with Aaron Lansky, founder of the National Yiddish Book Center. As a college student he discovered that thousands of priceless Yiddish books were being discarded or destroyed and he became an ardent activist for the rescue and preservation of this important facet of Jewish culture. He created the Center in 1980 and to date; over 1.5 million volumes have been restored. Lansky’s presentation, “Outwitting History: The Amazing Adventures of a Man who Rescued a Million Yiddish Books” will take his audience on an emotionally moving and intellectually rewarding journey to restore and preserve a vanishing culture.

SBI lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by book sales and signing. The Center is pleased to announce that a new improved sound system has been installed in the auditorium

All programs will be held at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center Auditorium, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos. Free on-site parking is available. To order tickets or for more information call 408. 357-7438 or email: susan@svjcc.org.
